External Snapping Hip Syndrome: Emphasis on the MR Imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
snapping hip on flexion and extension of the hip during exercise or with the normal activities of daily living (1). Snapping hip syndrome is generally diagnosed by directly listening to the clicking sounds that are generated during the repeated flexion and extension of the hip or by palpating abnormal movement, and tenography (2), sonography and/or MR imaging have occasionally been used. The sonographic findings of the internal and external types of snapping hip syndrome had recently been reported (3-5). In this current study, we described the MR imaging findings of external snapping hip syndrome in 16 patients with 22 snapping hips.

An unusual cause of external snapping hip.
The external snapping hip syndrome is a condition characterized by palpable or audible snap on the lateral region of the hip occurring during movements and sometimes associated with pain. It is typical of young adults and athletes and can be favored by the abnormal sliding of the iliotibial band or of the gluteus maximus muscle over the greater trochanter. We present a case of external snapping...

Snapping hip syndrome is an audible or palpable snap in a hip joint during movement which may be accompanied by pain or locking. It is typically seen in young athletes performing activities requiring repeated extreme movements of the hip. It may also follow a physical trauma, intramuscular injections or surgeries. There are two main forms of snapping hip: extra- or intra-articular. Extra-articu...

Snapping hip or coxa saltans is a condition characterized by an audible and/or palpable snapping during hip movement and can be associated with pain around the hip. There are various causes of this condition and can be divided into two types: extra-articular and intra-articular. The most common type is the external extra-articular, where the snapping is due to thickened posterior part of the il...
متن کاملOsteochondroma Arising from Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine as a Cause of Snapping Hip
Snapping hip syndrome is a relatively common problem that can be easily managed with conservative treatment. This syndrome can be divided into external, internal and intra-articular types. Internal snapping hip syndrome is the rarest amongst these and its etiology is not well understood. We report a unique case of osteochondroma arising from the anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS), which cause...
متن کاملCoxa Saltans: The Snapping Hip Revisited.
Coxa saltans, or "snapping hip," has several causes. These can be divided into three types: external, internal, and intra-articular. Snapping of the external type occurs when a thickened area of the posterior iliotibial band or the leading anterior edge of the gluteus maximus snaps forward over the greater trochanter with flexion of the hip. The internal type has a similar mechanism except that...
